The sexual side effects and symptomatic benefits of an enriched herbal nutriceutical bar compared with traditional medical therapy in men with symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia: MATERIALS AND METHODS

Inclusion
If the patient was male and between the ages of 18 and 85 years, suffering from mild to moderate symptoms of BPH (IPSS<20) with a post-void residual of <150cc and uroflow <15 mL/sec on a minimum 150 cc voided volume, he was offered an informed consent. buy ortho tri-cyclen online
Exclusion
The following individuals were excluded from the study:
• Any patient taking any medication that would affect his androgen status, such as testosterone, ketoconazole, luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone analogues (LHRH), or 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors.
• Any patient presently receiving alpha blocker therapy.
• Any patient with a known allergy to any of the ingredients in the bar.
Patients were randomly assigned in a double-blinded manner to receive either the active neutriceutical bar containing all of the herbs, vitamins and minerals, or a matched oat-based bar that contained none of the active components.
All patients were given a daily bar for one month and were then retested. For the next two months, the patients were instructed to ingest one bar every other day. They were retested at the end of the two-month cycle. Each patient was assessed for side effects at each visit. All patients had a negative urine culture (Table 1).
The preparation is a low-fat, high-fibre, good-tasting bar containing 170 calories. Each bar weighs approximately 50 g, with the nonactive ingredients consisting of oat, soy and grain-based cereal with some cranberries.
The placebo bar was identical in size, shape and taste, but was prepared without theactive ingredients listed above.
