Psychosocial Issues (Part 3)Although we acknowledge that lung cancer is not one disease with uniform treatment strategies (eg, the role of surgery in non-small cell carcinoma and small cell carcinoma are quite different), the psychosocial literature rarely discriminates among the different histologic features or stages of lung cancer. When information is available on a specific histologic feature or stage of lung cancer, we will clearly indicate the characteristics of the patient sample. Perhaps future investigations with lung cancer patients will take care to evaluate the psychosocial response to lung cancer and its treatments according to specific medical and biologic factors. buy cipro
Psychosocial Factors in Relation to the Incidence and Mortality from Lung Cancer
Psycho-oncologic researchers have been interested in whether psychosocial factors influence the incidence and/or survival in cancer patients.’ Various research strategies have been used, including retrospective studies of premorbid personality traits in the 1950s and 1960s, to psychoneuroimmunologic investigations in the 1980s. Breast, cervix, and lung cancer are the most frequently studied cancer sites in this area of research.
